Progress® DataXtend® Semantic Integrator (SI) enables business analysts, architects and developers to create, maintain and govern common-model-based data services in a service-oriented architecture (SOA). These services enable enterprises to reduce the complexity and cost of their SOA implementations while improving agility.
|
Enterprises adopt distributed, event-driven SOA to improve agility. However, many are finding their implementations plagued by complexity, and data integration is a major culprit. A recent study, conducted by Forrester Consulting on behalf of Progress Software, found that over 80% of organizations amplify this complexity by reconciling physical data level differences between applications and services with hand-coded point-to-point mappings. With DataXtend SI, enterprises benefit from central design for the mediation, governance, and change management of data integration, vastly decreasing complexity and increasing flexibility. DataXtend SI provides data interoperability that fulfills the promise of SOA. DataXtend SI provides graphical design tools to create Exchange Models, mediations between applications and services with different structures and semantics, to minimize data integration complexity. Working without Exchange Models for your SOA can be like walking a tightrope without a net. Progress DataXtend Semantic Integrator has two major components, the Designer and the Engine.
DataXtend® SI Designer™ is a complete design environment for creating and managing models, rules, and data services. DataXtend SI Designer imports existing schemas for data sources, data services, and the common information model, where they are enriched with transformation and validation rules using DataXtend SI’s comprehensive set of visual tools. DataXtend SI also exports models as XSDs and WSDL files to create new data services.
DataXtend® SI Engine™ is the runtime component of the DataXtend SI architecture. At runtime, data is dynamically converted and validated before it is submitted to backend systems. All data services use standard interfaces for incorporation into any business process or target application. The output of DataXtend SI Engine is Java, running as stateless services with optimal performance.
