What Is Web-based Training?

Web-based training (WBT) provides a means for you to take courses over the web. With WBT, all you need is access to the Internet, and you can take Progress training wherever, whenever, and however you want. Our WBT is the same high quality as the award winning, task-based, hands-on multimedia training we offer as Computer-Based Training. And, our WBT is specifically designed to run efficiently over the Internet.

Who should take it?

In an effort to deliver as many Progress training options to our customers as possible, Progress Education now offers training over the web! Progress Software understands the value of your time. We have developed courses that enable you to learn the latest Progress technology at your convenience. Progress web-based training gives you the opportunity to take Progress training at a lower cost than ever before and with the convenience of "anywhere and at any time."
For students who:

  • Are unable or unwilling to attend classroom training
  • Prefer, require, or enjoy the engaging and supportive environment provided by WBT
  • Like the idea of being able to learn at their own pace and on their own schedule

  • Convenience: Get the training you need when you need it, not just when it is offered. You can fit learning into your schedule and complete the training from any computer with Internet access. You don't need to worry about the expense of travel or being away from home and work for days at a time.
  • Flexibility: Choose the eLessons that interest you. You can subscribe to individual eLessons or specially priced bundles. You pay for and take just the training you need, at a pace that suits your learning style.
  • Lower Cost: WBT is priced lower than comparable instructor-led training. In addition, because you can pick and choose which courses or eLessons you take, you don't need to pay for or attend training in which you are not interested.
  • High Quality: Our web-based training was developed using the same award-winning instructional strategies as our task-based multimedia CBT. Features include:
    • Animations with audio to teach concepts, procedures, and processes.
    • Hands-on practice in a simulated Progress environment, with step-by-step instructions and feedback.
    • Hands-on lab exercises in a live version of Progress, with hints and solutions provided.
    • Assessments with feedback to test your understanding of key concepts.

How It Works

Unlike traditional training methods, with web-based training you subscribe to a training duration of time - typically three or six months. Which subscription length you choose should depend on your learning style and your schedule. Do you expect to complete the training quickly or slowly over a period of time? Do you like to be able to go back to the training periodically to review topics and try exercises again? These are the questions to ask yourself when subscribing to a course.

What You Need

All you need is a computer with a Web browser and an Internet connection. To run many of the labs, you need Progress products installed on your machine.

Subscribing Is Easy

Here is how you do it:

  • Go to the Progress web-based training web page at: http://wbt.progress.com.
  • Click "Progress Web-based Training" on the left to see the list of courses available.
  • Select your titles, and click Subscribe.
  • Review your selections, and click Confirm.
  • If you are a new Progress WBT student, then click Profile to enter your information. If you are an existing student, enter your User Name and Password to review your Profile.
  • Complete the Profile page.
  • Choose Subscribe.
  • Once your subscription request has been submitted, you will receive email notifying you that your order is being processed, and you will be contacted for payment.
  • After your payment is processed, you will receive email that your subscription has been activated, along with your User Name and Password, and instructions on how to access your WBT titles.

Taking WBT Is Even Easier

Enter your User Name and Password (supplied to you when you make your first WBT purchase), and you can access your own My Courses page that lists all the training to which you've subscribed. Simply click on the course title you want to take and begin your training.
